MOROCCO, May 5 – 16, 2024
Embark on a 12-day odyssey through Morocco, a land of captivating contrasts where ancient traditions blend seamlessly with modern aspirations. This journey invites you to traverse the vibrant tapestry of this North African gem, from the cosmopolitan charms of Casablanca to the tranquil Sahara Desert, from the blue-painted alleys of Chefchaouen to the bustling souks of Marrakech.
Day 1: Arrival in Casablanca
Our team will meet and welcome you on arrival in Casablanca. Transfer to the hotel, check-in, and relax. We will meet in the evening for our welcome dinner, where we will enjoy a scrumptious meal, and drinks and mingle with potential new friends. Overnight in Casablanca.
Day 2: Casablanca to Tangier
We will start the day with an early breakfast, and head out to explore Hassan 2 Mosque. Later we will depart Casablanca and head to Tangier. This beautiful Moroccan port on the Strait of Gibraltar has been a strategic gateway between Africa and Europe since Phoenician times. We will drive along the coastline, to reach the charming town of Asilah. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the medina with its white-washed buildings, enjoy the coastal view, and have lunch in a local restaurant. We later continue our drive, to arrive and check in at our hotel in the early evening. You will have some free time to have an optional walk along the Corniche taking in the coastal views. Overnight in Tangier.
Day 3: Explore Tangier to Chefchaouen
After breakfast, we set out to explore Tangier. We will explore the coast road stopping at Hercules cave and Cap Spartel. Later, we will head to Chefchaouen, a 2- 3-hour drive. We will arrive in Chefchaouen, known for its blue-painted buildings, check in and freshen up. We will spend the afternoon and evening exploring Chefchaouen. Wander through the narrow, blue-painted streets of the medina, taking in the unique atmosphere. We will visit the central square, Plaza Uta el-Hammam, surrounded by cafes and shops. Optionally, hike up to the Spanish Mosque for panoramic views of the town.
Day 4: Chefchaouen to Fes
After breakfast, we depart Chefchaouen for Fes. Enjoy the drive-through time and terrain as we bid farewell to Chefchaouen, the road winds through the Rif Mountains, unveiling breathtaking panoramas at every turn. The journey to Fes is an exploration, revealing Morocco’s diverse landscapes. Arrival in Fes, the embodiment of Moroccan heritage, we’ll step into a world that has preserved its medieval essence. This city is an anthology of history, culture, and spirituality. We will check into our accommodation and take a moment to absorb the atmosphere that resonates through its narrow alleys. Overnight in Fes.
Day 5: Explore Fes
We will spend most of the day exploring the attractions of Fes, the old imperial city of Morocco. Embark through the Royal Palace to the Jewish Quarter. Enjoy a tour of the traditional artisanal Tanneries and shop for original leather goods. Highlights of the day include Fes el-Bali, Al-Qarawiyyin University and Mosque, Dar Batha, Bou Inania Madrasa, leather Tanneries, Royal Palace, Merenid Tombs, Jewish Quarter (Mellah), Fes el-Jdid, Souks, and Markets.
Day6: Fes– Merzouga: Sahara Desert
After breakfast at the riad in Fes, leave for Merzouga with photo stops and a lunch stop. We will travel to Merzouga via Errachidia and Erfoud through the fascinating Tiz Ntalghamt pass and the Ziz Gorge, taking in views of the High Atlas plateau. Arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon. We will be welcomed with a glass of Moroccan tea before we start our camel ride to spend a magical night in the desert camp with Berber music and cuisine.
Day 7: Sahara Desert Exploration
Today, we rise early for a desert sunrise in the dunes. After a leisurely breakfast in the desert, we will start an offroad adventure around Merzouga and have the opportunity to see the nomad’s way of life in the black village of Khamlia. After we visit the nomads, we will continue our adventure through the black desert towards the Mifis mines. A place where the locals dig and find different types of minerals in the area. We will have lunch in Khamlia town at a local restaurant. We will return to the hotel in the afternoon and rest.
Day 8: Merzouga to Ouarzazate
After your breakfast, we will start our journey towards Rissani. It is the closest town of significant size to the Erg Chebbi, the largest sand desert in Morocco. We will later continue towards Alnif for a break.
We will get to Todra Gorge, a series of limestone river canyons, in the eastern part of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. We will have lunch and then we head to Ouarzazate. We arrive at our hotel overlooking the Ouarzazate.
Day 9: Ouarzazate to Marrakech
After breakfast, we head to Marrakech city. We will drive through the road of the thousand kasbahs and our main visit for today is AIT BEN HADDOU kasbah. A historic ighrem along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech in present-day Morocco. It is considered a great example of Moroccan earthen clay architecture and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
After the visit and lunch in this town, we will drive through the majestic high Atlas Mountains and Tizi N Tichka Pass. You’ll have a great opportunity to visit an argan cooperative of Berber women to see how this rich product is locally made. Then, we’ll get to Marrakech in the evening and check into our riad.
Day 10: Marrakech (guided tour)
On this day, you will have an optional private guided tour of Marrakech Medina with an official guide from Marrakech. For coffee lovers, you may take a coffee break at the Bacha Coffee House – at the Dar el Bacha palace – a supreme authority for coffee enjoyment. Highlights of the day include a visit to Majorelle Gardens, the YSL museum, Bahia Palace, Madrassa Ben Youssef, and a visit to Marrakech souk.
Day 11: Free day in Marrakech
Enjoy Marrakech at leisure, optional activities include visiting the hammam, Moroccan cooking class, shopping etc. In the evening we will meet for our farewell dinner.
Day 12: Departure
After an amazing 12 days, our trip has come to an end. We’ll transfer you to the airport at any time according to your flight schedule to Marrakech Menara Airport. We hope to see you on another Soul Sync adventure soon.
